The Ocean Sciences mandate is to provide a strong base of physical, chemical and biological data along with research, analysis and advice required to support decisions regarding maintaining:

the conservation, protection and sustainable use of the environment and marine resources of the St. Lawrence and Quebec's northern coastal waters;

a safe navigation environment (Ex: oceanographic conditions) for the various users of the St. Lawrence.

In order to fulfil its mandate, ocean sciences staff carry out various integrated activities distributed into the following responsibility centres:

  • Physical and biological modelling
  • Monitoring
  • Ocean Climate
  • Ecosystem Productivity
  • Toxic Algae
  • Operational Oceanography
