Welcome to the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Unit...
The GIS Unit provides GIS services to support
the protection and conservation of fish and fish
habitat in the Pacific Region. Through the combination of
GIS datasets, tools and procedures, the unit performs a wide
range of activities including:
- technology implementation and deployment
- the development of spatial data sets
- ongoing construction and management of a spatial data
warehouse
- the development of desktop and internet mapping applications
- spatial analysis
- publication of maps and atlases
- technical training and support
- project management
- co-ordination of GIS activities with other
government agencies and within DFO.
This web site provides information on the GIS Unit's activities and facilitates sharing GIS knowledge and services over the web. In particular, access to the unit’s Maps
and Data is available through internet mapping applications such
as MAPSTER and the Fisheries Project Registry.
Updates to these applications along with other new projects, recent spatial data acquistions
and GIS related events are available in the What’s
New section. GIS technical knowledge, including training materials and documents, can be viewed
in the Knowledge section of this website.
We hope that you will find this site informative and easy to use.
