Using Hydrographic charts such as those produced by the Canadian Hydrographic Service plays an important role in the safe-guarding of the marine environment. Our responsibility to preserve and protect our aquatic environment and natural resources is a demanding task.

Through the promotion of safe navigation, our marine beds and sea life are protected to ensure their integrity and healthy viability for future generations. CHS also contributes to environmental protection efforts in the event of marine oil spills or other disasters. By providing knowledge of the surface water movements, collection management of this data and the development of sensitivity maps of marine areas which indicate areas where oil or chemical spills may occur.
