Rockfish Conservation Strategy
Over the past three years Fisheries
and Oceans Canada (DFO) has been continuing to develop the
Rockfish/Lingcod Conservation Strategy announced in May 2002.
The strategy encompasses the following four principles: |
|
Fisheries and
Oceans Canada would like to thank all stakeholders that
participated in the identification of candidate Rockfish
Conservation Areas within the Strait of Georgia. Subsequent
to the closing date for comments on the proposed areas
(April 30, 2006), the technical committee has completed its
final evaluation and amendments to the proposed areas. The
new RCA's will be described to ensure that the associated
coordinates are accurate. Creating legal descriptions of the
new suite of RCA's for the strait - including printing new
booklets - will take several months. Therefore, rather than
trying to implement the new suite during the 2006
recreational and commercial fisheries, the new suite will be
announced later in the fall for implementation February 1,
2007. Current RCA's along the coast of British Columbia
continue to be in effect for 2006. Please refer to the link
below to access those closed areas.
