DFO's Office of
Sustainable Aquaculture (OSA) manages the aquaculture file at
the national level. OSA's mandate is to bring departmental
focus and strategic direction to the aquaculture file.

The Pacific Region Aquaculture Science program supports the
Department's regulatory mandate as well as providing a sound

The Aquaculture Collaborative
Research and Development Program (ACRDP) is a Department of
Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) initiative to increase the level of
collaborative research and development activity between the
aquaculture industry and the department, and in some instances
with other key funding partners.

The Atlantic
Salmon Watch Program (ASWP) is a cooperative research program
operated by Fisheries and Oceans Canada with funding from the
BC Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries.

The First Nations Atlantic Salmon Watch program (FNASWP), a
sub-program of the ASWP,
was initiated in 2001.
The
fund, which specifically aids First Nations, provided
resources to train and deploy First Nations surveyors
throughout coastal BC to look for Atlantic salmon.

A
research study undertaken by DFO. The study includes
research information collected on the status of pink salmon in
the Broughton Archipelago.

The Program for Sustainable
Aquaculture in Canada provides industry and the government
with opportunities to conduct leading-edge research and
development; strengthen measures to further protect human
health through an enhanced shellfish water quality monitoring
program; and implement a legislative and regulatory framework
for the industry.
