The Yukon Transboundary Rivers area covers a vast and diverse geographic area, encompassing the Yukon, Stikine, Taku, and Alsek River Drainages as well as portions of the McKenzie River Drainage in south east Yukon.


The First Nations of the Yukon Transboundary Rivers area represent the Athapaskan and Tlingit language groups. Dialects spoken include Loucheux, Han, Northern and Southern Tutchone, Tagish, Inland Tlingit, Tahltan and Kaska.

Within the Yukon Territory, the Umbrella Final Agreement (UFA) and individual Final Agreements provide a framework for fisheries management through the Yukon Salmon Committee (YSC). The First Nations affected under the Final Agreement are
Liard Vuntut Gwich’in, Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in, Na-Cho Nyäk Dun, Selkirk, Little Salmon Carmacks, Ross River Dena, Ta’an Kwäch’än, Kwanlin Dün, Carcross Tagish, Teslin Tlingit, Champagne and Aishihik, Kluane and White River.
