Access to boat and motor denied until fine paid

Springdale – Pearce Jennings, of Triton, was convicted in Springdale Provincial Court on May 16, 2006, of fishing cod during a closed time and for possession of fish taken illegally.

Mr. Jennings was fined $2,000 and the judge ordered that his 18 ft. boat and 45 hp motor, seized in the incident, remain in confiscation until the fine is paid in full.

Fishery officers of the Springdale Detachment were conducting a routine patrol in Notre Dame Bay on September 23, 2005, when they came upon Mr. Jennings along with another individual fishing cod with handlines from a small open boat. An inspection found the men in possession of 26 cod. The fish were forfeited to the Crown.

The second individual involved will appear in court at a later date.
