Groundfish
Marine Ecosystems and Aquaculture Division

The Groundfish section is part of the Marine Ecosystems and Aquaculture Division (MEAD) of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Science Branch.  We are responsible for groundfish research and stock assessments in the Pacific region of Canada.

Objectives:

  • Provide timely and accurate assessments for groundfish species.
  • Provide advice on available yield to managers and industry.
  • Conduct biological studies on all aspects of the dynamics of these species, in particular, abundance trends, distribution, stock delineation, age, growth, and mortality.
  • Examine climate/ocean productivity linkages to fish dynamics and begin to incorporate these into the assessment process.
  • Provide advice to regional, national, and international working groups, committees, commissions, etc. on population dynamics and assessments for groundfish fish resources of Canada's west coast.
