The oceans are divided into 2 by 5 degree latitude by longitude
areas. A count is made of the number of months in which at least one upper ocean
temperature profile has been made and reported through the J-COMM BATHY code form.
There are two maps. In the first, the colored rectangles are those with
at least one observation in the month. The second map is for the previous 12 months
and colours the areas according to the number of months in which there is at least one
reported profile. For example, areas colored yellow have at least one reported
profile in each of 7 or 8 months.
