For the past 25 years, teachers around British Columbia
and the Yukon have been incubating salmon in the classroom and
taking children on field trips to local streams.
Now, Fisheries and Oceans' Stream to Sea program is bringing
the ocean to the classroom too! Pacific Region Education Coordinators
and Community Advisors are preparing to foster the next generation
of aquatic stewards: people who understand, respect, and protect
entire freshwater, estuarine, and marine ecosystems, and who recognize
how all humans are inextricably linked to these complex environments.
The Stream to Sea program envisions students and educators
in the Pacific Region that are
"...well-informed on aquatic ecosystems,
motivated by a stewardship ethic and contributing to
the health and sustainability of their community."
(Read highlights from our Strategy)
There are several ways Stream to Sea can help you can
introduce aquatic ecosystems (rivers, streams, estuaries and oceans)
and the concepts of stewardship and sustainability to your classroom
and community:
