Taking Action for our Security
Over the past few years Québec has been faced with a variety of
disasters: spring floods, landslides, train derailments, severe
winds, forest fires, torrential rain. In June 1990, the Québec
government set up a permanent organization devoted to planning and
coordinating public security measures across the province: the
Organisation de la sécurité publique du Québec (OSCQ).
The OSCQ involves over 25 government departments and agencies.
It is responsible for doing everything possible to protect people
and their belongings. Since 1998, the responsibilities of the
various government departments and agencies have been clearly
identified in the National Civil Protection Plan, which enables the
OSCQ to provide maximum assistance for disaster victims and the
population at large.
With your well-being in mind, the Québec government has added
the Emergency Situations: Take Action for Safety link to
Québec Portal, Citizens and regional portals. In the event of a
major disaster, click the link to access full information.
The guide entitled gives you
full information about everything that can be done in disaster
situations.
More information on public security in Québec is available on
the Web site maintained by the Ministère de la Sécurité
publique.
Citizens who are adequately prepared for emergencies and
disasters develop responsible behaviours and act appropriately.
