Electronic Navigational Charting

The Electronic Navigational Charting (ENC) Division is responsible for the construction and maintenance of digital charts that are used in Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS). Vector and raster Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) are new CHS products that have been required over the past few years to provide official chart data for ECDIS. Our commercial shipping clients are the primary users of vector ENCs and their needs were initially met with our NTX format version. Now, the primary focus is the construction of ENCs in the new S-57 format so that CHS Electronic Chart files comply with standards established by the International Hydrographic Organization and the International Maritime Organization. As with the paper charts, updates and Notices to Mariners are also required for these products.
