TIDAL WATERS FISHING LICENCES NOW AVAILABLE ON-LINE

Vancouver – Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is pleased to announce the launch of a new tidal waters recreational fishing licence service option.  As of June 8, 2004, Canadians can be issued a British Columbia tidal waters sport fishing licence through a secure website.

Recreational anglers and harvesters across Canada will now be able to be issued a tidal waters fishing licence from the comfort of their own home.  This new licensing option complements the licence vendor service that is currently available across the province.

Canadians wishing to be issued a sport fishing licence on-line can do so 24-hours a day, seven days a week.  It’s fast and easy:  complete the short and secure on-line form, using a valid credit card, and print your licence.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada has added this new option for issuing fishing licences to give recreational fishers more choices and greater access to the Department’s services.

The Government of Canada is committed to improving service access to Canadians, and is creating a broader range of options to access government services and information.  The use of technologies like the Internet is the foundation for these new access options, and in the case of tidal waters fishing licences, will complement the existing point of sale vendor network.

Tidal water fishing licences will continue to be available from our more than 500 licence vendors across British Columbia.  Licence vendors include tackle shops, some major department stores, and marinas.

The on-line licensing service is being rolled out in stages.  This first stage allows Canadian residents to be issued a fishing licence through DFO’s regional website at www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish.  The second stage of the on-line licensing service roll out will allow non-Canadian residents to access this licensing option.  Tourists and non-Canadians will be required to continue to request a sport fishing licence in person through the regular licence vendors system until the new on-line service is available for non-residents.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada would like to encourage individuals who are accessing the new licence service via the internet to also consult the on-line Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Guide/Freshwater Salmon Supplement prior to fishing.  The most up-to-date fishing regulations are available at www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish.
