Regan Appoints Director to the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation

May 18, 2004

OTTAWA – The Honourable Geoff Regan, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced the appointment of Robert L. Paterson as a director to the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation (FFMC). Mr. Paterson will represent the province of Ontario, replacing Mr. Douglas Sayers.

"I would like to welcome Robert Paterson to the corporation," said Minister Regan. "His knowledge of and commitment to the freshwater fishing industry will be invaluable to the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation."

"I would also thank Douglas Sayers for his valued contribution, years of service and timely advice to the corporation."

Mr. Robert L. Paterson has worked for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for more than 25 years and is currently the area director for the Sioux Lookout District. There, he is responsible for planning and implementing resource management programs for area fishery, wildlife, forestry, crown land and water resources. Previously a senior resource technician for the ministry, Robert Paterson assisted with the development of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan for the Temagami area.

The FFMC is a Crown corporation established in 1969 under the Freshwater Fish Marketing Act to improve returns to fishers while operating on a self-sustaining basis. The corporation regulates inter-provincial and export trade of freshwater fish, fish products and by-products from the freshwater commercial fisheries in Canada’s three Prairie provinces, the Northwest Territories and part of Northwestern Ontario. Each province or territory appoints one director to the 11-member FFMC Board.
