Regan Announces Release of New Atlantic Fisheries Licence Appeal Process Guide

december 20, 2004

OTTAWA – The Honourable Geoff Regan, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), today announced the release of a new guide on the Atlantic Fisheries Licence Appeal Process. The guide, in the form of a bilingual brochure, provides a clear outline of the commercial inshore licencing appeal process applicable for Atlantic Canada and Quebec.

"I am pleased to announce the release of a new Atlantic Fisheries Licence Appeal Process guide," said Minister Regan. "The guide responds to the needs of inshore fishers by providing a clear, step-by-step outline of the licence appeal process."

Fishers are encouraged to fully explore all aspects of their complaint with local and/or regional DFO licensing officers, to try to resolve the situation without the need for a formal appeal. Should fishers choose to file an appeal, the guide includes the latest, up-to-date information on the process; including a complete list of regional contacts and explains the two appeal levels, the type of documentation required for an appeal, how to prepare for a hearing, deadlines and other relevant information.

The guide is now available at DFO’s regional offices in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Quebec. It will be mailed to all licensed fishers in Atlantic Canada and Quebec and has also been posted on DFO’s website at:
