August 16, 2000

MAGOG—Denis Paradis, Member of Parliament for the constituency of Brome-Missisquoi, announced today on behalf of the Honourable Herb Dhaliwal, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, that the Government of Canada will invest $500,000 in the refurbishing of the federal wharf at Georgeville on Lake Memphremagog. The project will be carried out under the Recreational Harbours Divestiture Program administered by the Small Craft Harbours Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

The work, which will be managed by Public Works and Government Services Canada, consists of the partial demolition of the upper section of the wharf and lower section of the landing and subsequent reconstruction with Berlin walls to be built around the existing wharf face. Under an agreement with the municipality, work will also include the reconstruction and paving of the wharf approach and a new electrical system. The municipality will contribute $100,000 to the project.

Upon completion of the project and in accordance with an agreement with the municipal officials, the wharf will be transferred to the Municipality of Stanstead Township under the Department of Fisheries and Oceans’ Recreational Harbours Divestiture Program.
