PARADIS ANNOUNCES $500,000 FEDERAL INVESTMENT AT
GEORGEVILLE WHARF

MAGOG—Denis Paradis, Member of Parliament for the constituency of
Brome-Missisquoi, announced today on behalf of the Honourable Herb Dhaliwal,
Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, that the Government of Canada will invest
$500,000 in the refurbishing of the federal wharf at Georgeville on Lake
Memphremagog. The project will be carried out under the Recreational Harbours
Divestiture Program administered by the Small Craft Harbours Branch of
Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
The work, which will be managed by Public Works and Government Services
Canada, consists of the partial demolition of the upper section of the wharf and
lower section of the landing and subsequent reconstruction with Berlin walls to
be built around the existing wharf face. Under an agreement with the
municipality, work will also include the reconstruction and paving of the wharf
approach and a new electrical system. The municipality will contribute $100,000
to the project.
Upon completion of the project and in accordance with an agreement with the
municipal officials, the wharf will be transferred to the Municipality of
Stanstead Township under the Department of Fisheries and Oceans’ Recreational
Harbours Divestiture Program.
