Vancouver – Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announced today that fishing regulations for recreational anglers and harvesters are now available. The British Columbia Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Guide and Freshwater Salmon Supplement is now available as a single booklet through DFO and will be available shortly at more than 600 licence vendors throughout the province. Fisheries and Oceans Canada has made some changes to the Guide and the Supplement this year. One of these changes involves the amalgamation of these two publications into one booklet. Anglers will now only need one publication for salmon regulations, regardless of whether they are fishing for salmon in tidal water or freshwater. The Sport Fishing Guide/Freshwater Salmon Supplement is valid for two years – from April 1, 2001 to March 31, 2003. This means that in 2002, the publication will continue to be valid, therefore recreational anglers and harvesters are requested to keep their copy for the two-year period. The layout of the Sport Fishing Guide has also been modified to improve the readability of the information. The Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis outlines the fishing regulations for freshwater species other than salmon. The Synopsis is available by contacting the B.C. provincial government. When a sport fishing licence is purchased for the current season, an angler or harvester can request a copy of the Sport Fishing Guide/Freshwater Salmon Supplement. It is the responsibility of the angler to be informed of the up-to-date regulations. Important regulations for anglers and harvesters are outlined in the booklet. Updates to the information in the booklet will be made by Public Notice. Anglers may also check the website at http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca, check with their local DFO office, call the 24-hour recorded line at 666-2828 for shellfish and finfish other than salmon information, or call the Salmon Update Line on the Talking Yellow Pages at: Vancouver: 299-9000 Enter code FINS (3467) -30-
