Bob Kilger Announces Transfer of Summerstown Harbour

June 25, 2001

CORNWALL -- Bob Kilger, Member of Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-Charlottenburgh, announced today on behalf of the Honourable Herb Dhaliwal, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, the transfer of ownership of the federal harbour facility of Summerstown to the Township of South Glengarry.

"The Township has clearly demonstrated an interest in managing and developing the area’s waterfront assets for the benefit of the community. The transfer will ensure that the Township is able to continue with this focus for years to come," said Mr. Kilger.

The facility consists of approximately 0.5 hectares of property and includes an approach wharf leading to a small L-shaped wharf. The Township of South Glengarry will become the new owner and continue operating the harbour as a public facility.

This transfer is part of the Recreational Harbours Divestiture Program administered by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). This program is designed to transfer ownership of DFO recreational harbour assets to local organizations that are better suited to maintain and operate the facilities.
