Fish Kill Bellisle Bay, Kings County, N.B.

Dartmouth, N.S. -- Today Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) received reports of a number of dead and dying striped bass in Bellisle Bay, Kings County, N.B., a tributary to the Saint John River. At this time, DFO is working in co-operation with other agencies such as Environment Canada and the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources & Energy to determine the extent and cause of the kill. Fishery Officers are currently on site collecting samples and removing dead fish. Anyone finding dead striped bass in this area is encouraged to report that information to DFO by calling 1-800-565-1633.

DFO has also received reports that some members of the public may have taken fish home for consumption. At this time no samples have been analyzed and a cause has not yet been determined. Therefore, the public is strongly advised not to take any of these fish home nor consume them.
