Eric Marshall Aquatic Research Library

Regional Library

The Eric Marshall Aquatic Research Library serves as the Central and Arctic regional library and is located at the Freshwater Institute in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Although the library is part of the Environmental Sciences Division for reporting purposes, the library in fact serves all Divisions within the Region. The library maintains an inventory of some 21,000 monographs, 220 current journal titles, 50,000 volumes of journal back issues, 25,000 microfiche documents, 300 microfilms, several CD-ROMs, and numerous other documents and maps. The library also maintains approximately 70 internet/IP access subscriptions to database services and full-text journals. These are available on-site at the Freshwater Institute and to staff off-site throughout the Region. The library is open to the public between the hours of 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

The library provides the following services to its clients:

  • Provision of scientific and technical information and publications to regional staff in support of their programs from the library and from a virtual library intranet site;
  • Provision of information research services to regional staff and other clients;
  • Provision of loans and photocopies to clients and reciprocal loans services to other libraries;
  • Coordination of translation and report publishing services;
  • Regular announcements of new acquisitions to the library; and
  • World-wide access to holdings through WAVES (Fisheries and Oceans Canada national library catalogue) internet database.

Library clients include: Fisheries and Oceans Canada staff, other government departments, University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg, other universities, consultants, other libraries and the general public.
