Tables on historical fisheries statistics, covering the years from 1972-1989, will allow interested users access to previously unavailable data. Such information is being presented to enable time series input into research papers, general reports, etc. in response to users' requests. Landed quantities and values by species group, species and province for Canada's seafisheries are presented for the years 1972 through 1989. The tables presented here are based on information collected by the regional offices of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Since 1972, information on landed quantities in Canada has been reported in metric tonnes, live weight (prior to that year, quantities were reported in imperial measure, landed form). Since there is no comparability between the two reporting series, data prior to 1972 is not yet presented. This section, once completed, will cover years back to 1873, providing "as reported" data presented to Parliament in the reference year.
