Landings

Information on volume and value of fish landings in Canada are collected by both federal and provincial agencies. Data collection for seafisheries is the responsibility of the regional offices of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Data on freshwater fisheries is provided by a number of sources including regional offices of DFO, provincial governments and the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation. Information contained in this section covers volume and value of landings in seafisheries by species-groups, by main species, by province and, for Atlantic Canada, by DFO region. World fisheries data tables are based on data provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Tables presented in this section cover current statistics (from 1989 to one year before the current fishing season) and historical information for years before 1989 for which information is available. Due to the nature of the fishing industry, data provided may be modified should new information be provided to DFO. Any such changes will be minor and revised tabulations will be so identified. As data is collected for the current year, preliminary results will be posted once the information has been assessed for trends in catch rates and for completeness of value data based on prices paid to fishers.
