Processing and Environmental Catalysis Program

The Processing and Environmental Catalysis program focuses its R&D efforts on improving the carbon and thermal efficiency of chemical processing. It develops enabling technologies for applications in a number of indusrial sectors.

Eligibility Criteria

This program area is targeted for the following industries: chemical, petrochemical, oil recycling, industrial, bio-fuel, natural gas processing.

Summary

The following technology areas are currently being addressed:

  • energy efficient routes to produce hydrogen and value-added products from natural gas and light hydrocarbons;
  • treatment and purification of waste oils;
  • blending of biomass-derived fuels for stationary and transportation use;
  • removal of NOx pollutants from mobile sources;
  • conversion of low grade heat to electricity;
  • separation and utilization of carbon dioxide;
  • high temperature membrane development and application;
  • multifunctional fuel cell reactors for coproduction of power and value-added products;
  • carbon-free ammonia fuel cells;
  • high cetane blending stock from renewable sources;
  • low temperature hydrogen production from biomass feedstock.
