Tables on Diskette - Payroll Deductions

Tables On Diskette (TOD) is a stand-alone computer program that calculates Canada Pension Plan (CPP); Employment Insurance (EI); and federal, provincial (except Quebec) and territorial tax deductions for all pay periods. TOD is usually updated, as tax changes occur, for January 1 and for July 1. TOD is produced to help reduce the paper burden for small businesses.

Eligibility Criteria

Any employer who manually calculates their own payroll deductions would benefit from this product. Small businesses in particular, will find this product extremely useful.

What Is TOD?

TOD is a Windows based computer program that calculates payroll deductions for all provinces and territories. The program gives you easy access to information you need without the paper burden.

Which tables are on TOD?

TOD replaces 28 payroll deductions tables, including:

  • Canada Pension Plan contributions;
  • Employment Insurance premiums; and
  • tax deductions for salary and wages.

Why use TOD?

The tables on diskette:

  • save you time and money;
  • makes your calculations more accurate;
  • are easy to install and use;
  • reduces government costs; and
  • benefits the environment.

How can you get TOD free?

Visit CRA's Web site to either download a copy, or to complete the on-line order form.  If you do not have Internet access, you can obtain a copy by calling 1-800-959-2221.

How can you automatically receive TOD annually?

If you wish to automatically be identified as a TOD user:

  • new employers should indicate this at the time of obtaining their payroll account; and
  • existing employers can either complete the order form located in the T4032 - Payroll Deduction Tables and RC4019 - Tables on Diskette (TOD) pamphlet, or send a written request to your local tax services office including you name, address and Business Number.

How often is TOD issued?

TOD is normally revised and issued twice a year as federal, provincial and territorial budgets require.  Once your payroll account is coded as a TOD user, any updates will be automatically forwarded to you.

What equipment do you need for TOD?

PC users:

    1- To obtain a more current version of the JRE and Access Bridge, visit the Sun Mircosystems web site at: http://www.sun.com.
    2- TOD program may not work with Windows 98, and the CRA no longer offers technical service for this operating system.

Macintosh users:

  • System requirements:
    • OS X operating system.

Can I save my payroll records using TOD?

No, you cannot save your payroll records using the program.  The private sector makes computer programs that are capable of saving your payroll records and more.  It is not the CRA's mandate to provide TOD with the ability to save and accumulate payroll records.  We provide TOD as an electronic version of the printed payroll deductions tables.

Your payroll account can only be coded to automatically receive either the paper tables or TOD, not both. If you wish to receive both versions, you will have to order your missing format using the methods described in How to Get TOD Free.
