Summary

The Cultural Property Export and Import Act ensures the preservation of important objects related to Canadian heritage by establishing export restrictions for certain categories of objects of historical, scientific and cultural significance.

It also provides for Canadian import restrictions on cultural property that has been illicitly exported from certain foreign countries.

The Canadian Cultural Property Export Control List identifies the categories of cultural property for which a permit is required before the object can be exported.

The Cultural Property Export Regulations states that anyone exporting cultural property falling within one of the identified categories of the list will require an export permit.

For more information on applying for temporary or permanent export permits, please refer to the Canadian Heritage Web site .
