Canadian Customs Regulations for Exporters

Important Announcement:

Canada Customs & Revenue Agency (CCRA) is revising the existing export regulations and will be introducing penalties for non-report of exports. If you have any questions concerning the completion of your export declaration or for information on upcoming changes to legislation and penalties, please contact your local customs office, call the Automated Customs Information System toll-free in Canada at 1-800-461-9999, or outside of Canada please call (204) 983-3500 or (506) 636-5064 (long distance charges apply), or consult the Administrative Monetary Penalty System document on the CCRA Web site at www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/export/penalties-e.html

  • 1-800 O Canada – International Access Numbers
    The Government of Canada's toll-free information line can provide information on rules and regulations set by the Government, such as information on customs, tax issues, etc.
  • ATA Carnet
    The ATA Carnet is an international, unified Customs document, which under a series of Customs Conventions, simplifies Customs procedures for the temporary duty free admission of three main categories of goods traded internationally: commercial samples; goods for presentation or use at trade fairs, shows, exhibitions or similar events; or professional equipment.
  • Border Information Service (BIS)
    ACIS is a computerized, 24-hour telephone service that gives general customs information. You can use a touch-tone or rotary-dial telephone to hear recorded information on exports as well as on various other customs topics.
  • Canada Border Services Agency – Customs Information for Exporters
    In addition to supplying customs information for exporters, the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency also provides helpful information for businesses - including seminars and guides.
  • Canadian Automated Export Declaration
    Tired of going to the Customs Office to report non-U.S. exports? You can complete and submit your export declaration to the Government of Canada right from your place of business by using the CAED system. The Web page at www.statcan.ca/english/exports will get you started.
  • Export and Import Controls Bureau
    The Export and Import Controls Bureau (EPD) is responsible for administering the Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA) which was first enacted in 1947. The EIPA delegates to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (referred to as "the Minister") wide discretionary powers to control the flow of goods contained in specified lists provided for under the Act.
