The Museums Assistance Program (MAP) provides financial assistance to Canadian museums and related institutions. Assistance is for museum activities that support the objectives of Canada's museum policy. The program is delivered by the regional offices of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to apply to the MAP program, the applicants must meet the criteria of one of the following three categories:
- Incorporated, non-profit Canadian museums that provide services to the public year-round, employ at least the equivalent of one full-time paid professional staff, have policies for key museological functions, and have a three to five-year strategic business plan;
- Incorporated, non-profit museum and heritage services organizations;
- Aboriginal governing bodies.
Note: Federal organizations and federal Crown corporations are not eligible for funding under MAP.
Eligible Activities
The priorities for funding under MAP are projects that tell Canada's story of the cultural and natural heritage diversity and promote Canada-wide perspectives (travelling exhibitions, outreach activities, collaborative initiatives, partnerships, etc.), projects that foster and support Aboriginal heritage activities, and those that strengthen the overall organizational capacity of museum institutions.
The Program provides funding for projects undertaken through traditional means as well as through the application of new technologies.
