Summary

The Customs Tariff establishes the authority for what goods are subject to marking and or exempt from marking, what the country of origin marking will be and the method and manner of marking.

The Marking of Imported Goods Regulations prescribe the proper method and manner of marking goods and when they may be marked in Canada after they have been imported, but before they are released from Customs control.

Importers, exporters and producers can request a ruling from Customs on the appropriate method and manner and country of origin for marking their goods. Please refer to Customs Memoranda D11-3-1, D11-3-3, D11-4-16 and D11-11-1.
