To Whom Does This Apply?

Summary

The Customs Tariff Act  (Act) establishes thirteen separate tariff treatments for goods imported into Canada. Sections 46 through 49 of the Act provide the CT preferential rate of duty for originating goods imported into Canada from Chile.

Rules of origin are used to determine if goods qualify for a particular tariff treatment. Goods which are listed in the List of Tariff Provisions of the Act, and which originate in Chile are entitled to the CT preferred rate of duty.

The CCFTA Rules of Origin Regulations set out the conditions under which goods may qualify for the CT preferential tariff treatment. These regulations are currently set out in Customs Notice N-145, CCFTA Rules of Origin Regulations, dated July 8, 1997.
