For all the importers of new or used vehicles.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) assists Transport Canada with the administration of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act and the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations by administering and enforcing the conditions under which new and used vehicles may be imported at customs points of entry. The CBSA also assists the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) with the administration of the Plant Protection Act by enforcing the conditions under which used vehicles may be imported at customs points of importation.
Vehicles that are presented for importation into Canada must comply with all Canadian import laws. The vehicles must meet the requirements of CBSA, Transport Canada and CFIA before they can be imported.
Before importing their vehicle, importers are responsible for determining if the vehicles they are about to import qualifies for importation. Transport Canada's Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) Program, a national program of vehicle inspection and certification, ensures that qualifying vehicles permanently imported into Canada are modified, inspected and certified to meet Canadian safety standards. You may contact them at 1-888-848-8240 (toll free in Canada or the United States) or (416) 626-6812 (only for other countries).
