The Conventions Services Program was created by the federal government of Canada to encourage foreign businesses to hold their conventions, meetings, trade shows or exhibitions in Canada.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) was designated the single business window for providing services to the meetings, conventions and incentive travel industry. Single window service allows the client to make only one contact for information on all government services associated with this program.

Eligibility Criteria

All members of the meetings, conventions and incentive travel industry, whether foreign or domestically based, are eligible for the provisions of the Government of Canada's conventions services program.

Summary

Once the location of the event has been determined, the client may request assistance by telephone or in writing to the CBSA customs office nearest the event site. The letter must provide information about the event, the participants and event materials coming into Canada. Requests to the CBSA for assistance should be submitted at least three months before the event date.

With the help of several other departments, the CBSA produced the "Welcome to Canada - Your Guide to Bringing a Convention, Meeting,Trade Show or Exhibition Across the Canadian Border". This guide, which is revised, published and distributed each year, tells you everything you need to know about using the single-window service that the CBSA has designed for event planners, organizers, and promoters.
