Business Consulting Services are geared towards established businesses in Northern Ontario, including manufacturing companies as well as businesses in the services sector which have the potential to expand into export markets. They complement Small Business Enterprise Centres located in seven communities across the North which target start-up and newly established businesses. Eligible AreaNorthern Ontario SummaryMinistry of Northern Development and Mines (MNDM) provides business consulting services through its network of offices located in 31 communities across Northern Ontario. MNDM staff provide information and advice in areas such as strategic business planning, sourcing of new ideas, products and services, adoption of new technology to increase profits and reduce costs, domestic and export market development, financing, and improving business competitiveness. Services are provided by MNDM staff who are members of multi-disciplinary area teams, which are responsible for delivering provincial economic development programs and services in Northern Ontario.
Staff assist businesses to identify needs, emerging markets and development opportunities, evaluate strategic options and business development strategies, and encourage firms to participate in networks to enhance their competitiveness and profitability. Staff are also able to suggest federal, provincial and municipal programs and services that meet various business needs.
MNDM staff help identify northern companies to participate in Wisdom Exchange peer discussion forums hosted by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. These forums offer dynamic speakers with a global perspective, interactive workshops on critical growth issues and small group discussions.
MNDM staff also help organize the annual Northern Regional Global Trader Awards. The regional award ceremonies are part of Ontario's first and only awards program that celebrates the export achievements of our small and medium-sized companies, leaders and students.
