Reform of the PLT system
Following extensive consultations in the north, the Ontario Government has decided to proceed with the reform of the PLT system. Legislation will be introduced in the Fall of 2006. If the legislation is passed, the government will implement a current value property assessment system in the unincorporated territory, which is similar to that in the rest of Ontario. Changes to the tax system would take effect in 2009.
Should the legislative changes receive Royal Assent in the Fall of 2006, a reassessment of properties in the unincorporated territory outside of school board boundaries will occur. The updated assessments would apply to the 2009 tax year. |
