The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: James Bezan, Wayne Easter, Roger Gaudet, David Kilgour, Larry Miller, Denise Poirier-Rivard, Gerry Ritz, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

 

Acting Members present: Ted Menzies for David L. Anderson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Inland Terminal Association of Canada: Garth Gish, Director, Prairie West Terminal. Canadian Grain Commission: Chris Hamblin, Chief Commissioner, Executive. Western Grain Elevator Association: Murdoch MacKay, Managing Director, Terminal Service Division, Agricore United. Inland Terminal Association of Canada: Garry Petrie, Chair. Western Grain Elevator Association: Wade Sobkowich, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing session on grain testing and inspection, and the WTO ruling on the treatment of foreign grain.
 

Chris Hamblin, Garry Petrie, Garth Gish, Wade Sobkowich and Murdoch MacKay made statements and answered questions.

 

On motion of Gerry Ritz, it was agreed, — That the Committee send a letter to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food to obtain a copy of the 2002 government report reviewing the CGC, by a review panel composed of three producers from each of the three prairie provinces; Douglas Livingstone, Germain Douk and Owen MacAuley.

 

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
