The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, James Bezan, Wayne Easter, Roger Gaudet, David Kilgour, Larry Miller, Denise Poirier-Rivard, Gerry Ritz, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

Witnesses: Canadian Vintners Association: William Ross, President; Vicki Bas, Director of Research. Consulting and Audit Canada: Janak Shah, Director; Fred Jaakson, Director General and Chief Auditor.
At 11:07 a.m., William Ross made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.
On motion of Gerry Ritz, it was agreed, — That the Committee, by the hand of the Chair, send a letter to the Minister of Finance in order to recommend excise duty relief for Canadian wine producers.
David L. Anderson moved, — That prior to the issuing of a report on the disposal of the federal hopper car fleet, the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food hear testimony regarding the 'fourth proposal' as described in a December 7, 2004 letter to the Minister Transport .
After debate, the question was put on the motion and the result of the vote was announced: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 4.
Whereupon, the Chair voted in the negative.
Accordingly, the motion was negatived.
At 12:15 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.
Janak Shah made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.
At 12:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
