Open Fire
Effective April 1, 2005, the rules for the use of open fire have changed in B.C. The changes streamline procedures and provide consistent requirements for safe burning across the province.
General Guidelines
New regulations for open fire are contained in the Wildfire Regulation and apply to:
Bans and Restrictions
Check to see if Ministry of Forests burning bans or burning restriction notices are currently in effect.
During periods when forest fuels are dry and the danger of forest fires increases, the Forest Service may need to impose bans or restrictions to limit the risk of a wildfire starting or to address public health or safety concerns.
To report a wildfire, notify the Provincial Forest Fire Reporting Centre at 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on the cellular networks.
Contravention of the Wildfire Act is an offence. A person who contravenes the Wildfire Act may be liable for an administrative penalty, a fine upon conviction, and/or fire fighting and rehabilitation costs as specified in the Wildfire Act.
