Our RoleThe Northern Forestry Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, carries out federal forest research and policy development in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. One of five Canadian Forest Service research establishments across Canada, we provide the forest sector with information and leading edge technologies to ensure it remains competitive, environmentally responsible, and sustainable. We play a major role in national programs on climate change impacts on forests, forest fires, forestry socio-economics, biodiversity, forest health monitoring and landscape management. In addition, we carry out the Model Forest Program and First Nations Forestry Program in our region. The Saskatchewan Liaison Office in Prince Albert is responsible for delivering CFS programs in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, under the general direction of the Northern Forestry Centre in Edmonton. The Mission of the Canadian Forest Service: "To promote the sustainable development of Canada's forests and competitiveness of the Canadian forest sector for the well-being of present and future generations of Canadians."
