Funding Programs

ENFOR (ENergy from the FORest)

Jan. 01/03: Note this program is related to the Panel on Energy Research and Development (PERD) - an energy S&T; program which funds work done by eleven federal departments and agencies in support of the Government of Canada´s energy priorities

The ENFOR program was established in 1978 to generate sufficient knowledge and technology to realize a marked increase in the contributions of forest biomass to Canada's energy supply. The program is part of a federal interdepartmental initiative on energy research and development. It is coordinated by Canadian Forest Service (CFS) HQ and most projects are managed by the 5 CFS research centres. Proposals are normally submitted before early November for review by a committee of representatives from within the CFS and related departments. Review criteria include relevance to strategic priorities for the program and for the CFS, scientific soundness, originality, and leverage of funds. Recommendations are presented for approval to the Assistant Deputy Minister of CFS. Proposals for projects of up to 5 years in duration are considered, although funding recommendations are made on an annual basis.

For more information, contact the Program Officer, Science and Programs Branch, CFS.
