Forestry Centre - Graduate Student Funding > Terms and Conditions
The Atlantic Forestry Centre Graduate Student Award is intended
to increase contact and cooperation between federal government
research scientists and Canadian universities by encouraging
highly qualified
Canadian students to carry out joint and mutually beneficial
graduate research projects in forest science and technology
in Canada.
Eligibility
Criteria
Applications can be submitted to the Atlantic Forestry Centre throughout the year but must be made jointly by the supervising university professor, the supervising Atlantic Forestry Centre researcher or director, and the graduate student. Applications will be adjudicated by a Dean of Graduate Studies and the Director-General of the Atlantic Forestry Centre, with preference going to projects tied to research being conducted at the Atlantic Forestry Centre.
Recipients are not permitted to hold both the Atlantic Forestry
Centre Graduate Student Award and the Canadian
Forest Service graduate supplement at the same time. Preference
will be given to Canadian citizens.
Selection Criteria
The Atlantic Forestry Centre will judge proposals based on the following
criteria:
- Relevance to the Canadian Forest Service’s program
objectives
- Scientific soundness of methodology and feasibility of
project
- Benefits/Impacts from the proposed deliverables
- Relevant experience & training of researcher(s)
- Delivery timeframe
Notification of Decision
The Atlantic Forestry Centre will notify successful applicants, in writing, as soon as decisions are made. Funding will be distributed in August, December, and April.
Payment
Payments will be made to the appropriate Faculty of Graduate Studies. The University will administer the funding, report anually on its disbursement, and ensure a report on deliverables is prepared annually.
General Conditions
The Canadian Forest Service maintains the right to periodically
review projects to ensure they continue to meet the criteria for
acceptance. In the event of the termination of student status, funds
must be returned to the university.
A two-page report, detailing progress made and deliverables produced
by the student during the period of the Award, is due at completion
or renewal of funding.
Promotion
The Canadian Forest Service will provide prior notification but
has the right to publish and broadcast names, addresses, and images
of successful applicants in any and all manner and medium as it may
determine without any liability to the beneficiary for doing so.
