Biography
I am an entomologist and have worked with the Canadian Forest Service since 1980. My works are always done with the same technique: dyes on wood (not to be confused with pyrography). The dyes are applied from pale to dark (the black is an Indian ink). The grain of wood is used to raise the effect of the dyes (see, for example, Sky and Ground, Huron1 and Huron2). A blade of knife is used to remove surplus dyes or to create highlights (for example, rocks in Sky and Ground). Since my childhood, I always worked with chiaroscuro, initially with inks on paper. I invented the technique of dyeing on wood in 1988 for my first private viewing at the Grandes Piles in Mauricie in 1989. On this occasion I sold more than 30 works, all portraits of women (!). It is only since 1990 that I have been making landscapes.
