EMMIC will collect or provide access to materials in the following subject areas:
a) Energy Policy:
Energy efficiency, climate change and energy, hydrogen economy, domestic energy policies,
sustainable energy development, frontier lands, renewable and alternative energy, energy
statistics, energy economics and fiscal analysis, environmental issues, energy and emergency
preparedness, oil, oil sands, electricity, natural gas, offshore oil and gas, nuclear energy,
uranium and radioactive waste, Statistics Canada publications.
b) Energy Technology:
Advanced end-use efficiency (commercial and residential buildings, communities, industry and
transportation), biotechnology, biomass conversion and utilization technologies, CO2 capture
and storage, hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen utilization, decentralized energy
production, renewable energy technologies, cleaner fossil fuels.
c) Minerals and Metals:
Materials processing, mining technology, sustainable mineral development, metallurgical
processes, mine effluents and tailings, environmental issues, advanced materials, explosives,
mining taxation, mineral commodities, minerals and mining statistics, mineral and metals policies
and programs, Statistics Canada publications, concrete, pipelines, corrosion, non-destructive
testing, Devco.
d) Management and Business:
Human resources management, leadership, strategic planning, organizational change,
organizational effectiveness, mentoring, continuous learning, personal and professional
skills, project management, knowledge management, information technologies ,
economics, governance, etc.
e) Sector Publications:
Deposit of publications produced by the Minerals and Metals and the Energy Sectors.

f) Research Support:
The EMMIC will support the current research needs of the ETB and MTB. Those needs are fluid,
depending on their current and long-term projects. The Reference Librarians are the first point
of contact with researchers. They will provide suggestions for the development of the collection
for specific projects. In addition, they will provide advice regarding sources of information,
databases, journals, patents, etc.
