POLICY FOR ONLINE DATABASE SEARCHING

End-User Searching

Access to several databases supporting the business and scientific needs of the primary users in the Corporate Services, Energy and Minerals & Metals Sectors is provided through the Energy, Minerals and Metals information Centre (EMMIC) Web site. Electronic databases such as Engineering Index (Ei Village) and Business Source Premier are available for online searching to these clients from the desktop.

The library subscribes to a reference service from NERAC which provides search results within 2 business days.

Library Staff Searching

Library personnel can search hundreds of databases via Dialog. This service is available exclusively to CSS, ES & MMS staff. In most cases searching Dialog is offered free of charge.

EMMIC will pay up to $500 (US) per topic. For searches over this amount, library staff and the client will negotiate payment after the library staff provides an estimate to the client of the cost of the search.

The client will seek approval from his/her lab or division before the search will progress. EMMIC will notify the client of the exact amount owed when the invoice is received. Funds will be transferred to EMMIC through an EA.
