Problems printing PDF files

If you are running Windows® 2000 and have a non-PostScript printer, printing problems sometimes occur in the Adobe® Reader® software. The Adobe Web site lists a series of solutions to this problem.

How to search for words in a PDF document

Using the Find toolbar:

  1. Open the document
  2. To display the Find toolbar, right-click in the toolbar area, and select Find
  3. In the Find box, type the word, words, or partial word that you want to search for
  4. From the Find Options menu, select options as desired
  5. To view each search result, click the Find Previous button or the Find Next button to go backward or forward through the document

Using the Search PDF window:

  1. Open the document
  2. Click the Search button on the File toolbar
  3. If you want to perform an advanced search, click Use Advanced Search Options
  4. Type the word, words, or partial word that you want to search for
  5. Set options as desired
  6. Click Search. The results appear in page order and, if applicable, show a few words of context.
  7. To display the page that contains a search result, click an item in the Results list. The occurrence is highlighted. Choose Edit -> Search Results -> Next Result or Edit -> Search Results -> Previous Result or use the Back button and the Next button at the top of the Search PDF window to move forward and backward through search panes.

Viewing large images at best quality

This Web site may provide links to very large detailed images that may exceed the browser window size even if the window is maximized. Some browsers have the capability of scaling these large images to fit in the browser window, but unfortunately this reduces the quality of the image and legibility of the information. If an image changes size to fill the browser window as the window is resized, the scaling feature has been enabled.

The scaling feature should be disabled to view the image at best quality, albeit requiring use of browser window scrollbars to view the entire image. To disable the image scaling:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer:
Select Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced, scroll down to the Multimedia section, and uncheck the Enable Automatic Image Resizing option.

  • Firefox:
Select Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General and uncheck the Resize larger images to fit in the browser window option in the Browsing section.
