Q How do I get a job as a forest fire fighter?

A

Forest fire suppression is a provincial/territorial responsibility. Extensive training is involved to become a forest fire fighter. Specifically, some provinces require the S-100 Forest Fire Fighter Training course (Ontario, for example). To find out if this course is required for a particular province or territory, it is recommended that you contact the appropriate provincial/territorial agencies.

Visit the Fire Links on the Forest Fire in Canada portal to access the provincial and territorial agency web sites. Some agencies, such as B.C., provide specific employment information. You will also find a "Fire Education and Training" section that provides additional useful information.
