Sylvie Gauthier's research activities concern the effect of fires on
the spatial structure and dynamics of forest stands in the boreal mixed
forest and coniferous forest. She is also studying postfire forest succession
patterns, both empirically and through modeling. This work supports efforts
to develop more ecologically responsible forestry practices.
