Bill de Groot worked in fire operations in Ontario for 6 years before joining the Canadian Forest Service (CFS) in 1985. While in the CFS Prince Albert District Office, he worked on fire behavior studies and operational applications of the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System. He joined the fire ecology research group at the Northern Forestry Centre in 1990 to study the effects of fire behavior on plant response. He is currently developing fire effects models to simulate vegetation dynamics under different fire regimes. These models are being used to address climate change and landscape management issues.
