Chao Li is a research scientist in the Synthesis of Knowledge and Information
Network of the Canadian Forest Service (CFS). Chao has a background in
insect ecology and mathematical ecology, and he has been with CFS since
1997. He worked on agricultural ecosystem dynamics before 1993 and then
switched his main research interests to forest landscape dynamics subject
to fire disturbances. One of his current research focuses is investigating
how the dynamics of forest landscapes might be influenced by fire regimes
under possible climate change scenarios. His research involves developing
and applying spatially explicit simulation models in the context of long-term
and large spatial scales, through the synthesis and integration of existing
knowledge and information within a framework based on contemporary ecology
theories. His other research interests include forest productivity and
biomass production under possible climate change scenarios, applications
of artificial intelligence technology in ecological land classification,
and the development of dynamic decision support systems for adaptive forest
resource management.
