Over $1 million invested for capital projects in School District 6 (06/08/18)

ROTHESAY (CNB) - The province is investing about $1.1 million for major and capital-improvement projects in School District 6 for the fiscal year 2006-07.

"Through our Quality Learning Agenda, we are ensuring that students, teachers and other education professionals are learning and working in a healthy, safe and positive environment," Education Minister Claude Williams said. "This investment in District 6 demonstrates the commitments we have made over the past seven years to ensure that the province's schools are healthy and safe. It also helps us work toward our goal of becoming the smart province under the Five in Five Initiative."

The projects being undertaken in District 6 during 2006-07 include:

The projects were selected from the yearly priority lists established by the district.

"I wish to thank members of the District Education Councils for their work in helping to identify high-priority projects, especially those where health and safety issues must be addressed," Williams said. "Their advice and input are greatly appreciated."

The $1.1-million investment in District 6 is part of the Department of Education's $58-million capital budget for the 2006-07 fiscal year.

The Government of New Brunswick has invested $327 million over the past seven years in new schools and capital improvements to existing schools across the province.
