Stimulate student curiosity using satellite imagery
Stimulate student interest in research by teaching how satellite images are used to monitor the Earth's environment.
The Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, in co-operation with the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI) Teacher Internship Program, has developed a Teacher's Guide to Student Research Projects. Intended for students aged 10 to 14 years old, this guide provides a field-tested, ready-made enrichment program in the areas of geography, science and other related fields. Students choose an environmental topic of interest, such as flood, fire, pollution, or El Niño, and then present their findings in such a manner to convince policy makers as to their recommendations.
Planned around sixteen sessions, this program allows time for the background material presentations, as well as, in-class time for student work and research presentations. Designed in colour, but printable in black and white, follow the "Downloading Instructions" to obtain this guide in PDF format. CCRS will not be distributing hard copy versions. Downloading Instructions This education kit is intended to be downloaded via your Web browser, saved and then printed out in colour or black and white. It is available in Adobe PDF format which can be viewed by both Macs and PCs. We have provided it in three sections:
