OVERVIEW
NRCan's Industry
Analysis and Business Development Branch (IABDB) was
restructured in 2000 to include an increased focus on international
business development (IBD). The IBD initiative established a Network
to increase international exposure and business opportunities to all
sectors
associated with the Canadian mining, minerals and metals-related industries,
from basic mapping to mine-site reclamation. Although the IBD initiative
focuses on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the relevant issues
of all partners in the Network are addressed. Network members include
industry associations and government departments and agencies as listed
below. The Business Development (BDD) Division unit serves as secretariat
for the Network.
OBJECTIVES
-
To
provide a forum for Canadian federal government departments, agencies
and industry associations involved in the mining, minerals, metals
and related sectors in Canada to discuss, develop and coordinate
international business development (IBD) initiatives;
-
To
share information about IBD-related initiatives, activities and
developments;
-
To
encourage synergies among participants;
-
To
ensure that IBD strategies and initiatives are consistent with,
and supportive of, other policy issues of interest to the mining,
minerals and metals-related industries;
-
To
improve the overall competitiveness of the Canadian mining, minerals
and metals-related industries;
-
To
consult on other issues (e.g., trade policy, investment issues)
as appropriate;
-
To
provide advice on geographic market opportunities; and
-
To
undertake, on an ad hoc basis, special studies or reports.
